The punches are sturdy and well made, but I was surprised by how dull the cutting edges were. There was no bevel, the ends were just squared off steel. It took 6-8 hard whacks to cut through 4 oz veg tan. However, I was able to sharpen them, and make them useable, with a few strokes of a small round file. To be fair, this is a common problem with punches. They are are still a good buy.
